The Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan (DSAWM) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to be a resource and advocacy organization, promoting public awareness and supporting lifelong opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

We share knowledge to educate families, educators, medical professionals, and the public about Down syndrome.

Meet Our New Executive Director

Please welcome April Sawhill as she takes on this important leadership role with the DSAWM. April has led a successful career as an attorney, most recently as a partner at Varnum LLP. She also brings experience with several non-profit associations including Health Intervention Services (HIS) and Grand Rapids Organization for Women (GROW). April brings networking, advocacy and leadership skills that will be of great benefit in fulfilling the mission of DSAWM. In accepting this position, April stated, “I’m excited to combine my passion for advancing individuals with the DSAWM’s mission to empower and support.”

April has returned to West Michigan with her husband and two children after spending more than a year in Singapore.  In her free time, you can find her planning her next travel adventure or cooking plant-based recipes.
